The National University of Singapore Enterprise Summer Startup Project (NUSSP) for the year 2023 was held from July 10th to 21st, 2023. Attracting approximately 300 students from 20 countries, this thrilling two-week "entrepreneurial journey" set a new record for participation. The summer startup project was organized by NUS Enterprise, National University of Singapore, and received strong support from long-term partners such as Temasek Foundation, as well as prominent collaborating partners such as the National Innovation Center of Vietnam, Aichi Prefecture of Japan, Tarumanagara Foundation, Universitas Darussalam Gontor of Brunei, and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. The project focuses on meeting the innovation and entrepreneurship needs of university students, aiming to provide guidance, resources, and services to support students in their engagement with innovation and entrepreneurship.
Participating in this summer startup project, students gained a deeper understanding of core concepts such as "innovation" and "entrepreneurship." This includes a deeper appreciation of the entrepreneurial ecosystems in Singapore, Southeast Asia, and other regions. Moreover, they actively engaged in various practical activities, conceptualized and pitched their innovative entrepreneurial ideas, and interacted closely with like-minded peers and professionals within the ASEAN, continually enhancing their skills in innovation and entrepreneurship.
During the opening ceremony, Professor Tan Eng Chye, the President of the National University of Singapore, emphasized the importance of regional participants in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. He urged entrepreneurs to take proactive actions to embrace a brighter future. He stated, "In a multipolar world, every region will produce leading market participants who will contribute exceptional abilities for the region's stable and long-term development. Today, we are delighted to see more and more unicorn enterprises emerging in this region. We firmly believe that countless 'stars of tomorrow' with dreams will set off from here!"
To realize this vision of development, the NUS Enterprise division "NUS Enterprise" of the National University of Singapore continues to support startups and emerging entrepreneurs in the region. Professor Tan Eng Chye cited successful examples of startups established by participants of the NUS Enterprise Summer Startup Project, such as Augmentus, Ethlas, and Tecgras, showcasing the National University of Singapore's strong support network and vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystem. He continued by saying that these successes are a testament to the National University of Singapore's resolve and dedication to fostering innovation and the next wave of enterprising leaders.
Through this summer startup project, students gained extensive knowledge and skills related to the startup ecosystem and strengthened their entrepreneurial abilities and confidence. The conclusion of the project marks the beginning of new friendships, new ideas, and new collaborations. The National University of Singapore will continue to focus on the entrepreneurial journey of these promising entrepreneurs, offering support and wishing them success in their future entrepreneurial endeavors.
